Yoakum Dunes Wma Project

Solar well feeding into water trough for livestock and then into dirt pit overflow for wildlife.

In early 2017 with MDF’s donation, which was matched with Pittman-Robertson funds ($20,000.00 total project budget), drilled two water wells and install solar panels and pumps to provide water to wildlife and livestock.

This donation has allowed us to provide surface water resources to mule deer, pronghorn, lesser prairie chicken, and a suite of other grassland wildlife. These solar wells will also provide water to livestock to improve grazing distribution throughout the WMA, which will enhance herbaceous vegetation communities to the benefit of increased fawning cover and improved foraging habitat for mule deer and pronghorn in addition to improved nesting and brood rearing habitat for northern bobwhite, scaled quail, lesser prairie chicken, and other non-game species.
